What are QR Codes

A QR code is essentially a barcode although it is capable of holding much more information. The QR actually stands for quick reaction and was first developed in Japan by a company named Denso, which is a subsidiary of Toyota.

Consumers can use their smart phones or other devices to scan the QR code which is essentially a two-dimensional barcode. The scanner then converts the QR code into a more useful form such as a website URL. This eliminates the steps of having to manually type the web address into a web browser.

People are often motivated to scan QR codes when they see them because they're curious about what information it contains. For this reason, the use of QR codes has become the main focus of many advertising strategies. QR codes have become so popular because they direct a consumer directly to a particular brand's website where they may be exposed to a more targeted sales pitch.

There are many other practical uses of QR code besides just advertising. These codes were initially used to help track the location of parts in the vehicle manufacturing process. They are also used by governments to store personal information of individuals. In the Philippines, their National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), uses QR codes to grant clearances. As time goes on, the use of QR codes is sure to become more advanced and cover a wider range of industries.

In this global economy, competition for business is more fierce than ever before and wise companies will use whatever resources available to gain an edge over the competition. For this reason, consumers are beginning to see QR codes in more and more places. On billboards, on buses, on the train, and pretty much anywhere else that is a viable place to advertise, there are now a plethora of QR codes for many different companies.

Like many things, QR codes were first invented to bring ease and convenience to an otherwise difficult process but intelligent business minds were able to find a way to use them to make money. Any business with a website what be wise to invest in QR codes because consumers are much more likely to scan a code than they are to manually enter a website URL.
